5 easy and quick Janmashtami recipes for fasting

Janmashtami is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna. Usually, people celebrate by keeping fast, visiting temples, singing the devotional songs, reciting Bhagavad Gita, and Krishna Katha’s. Janmashtami Recipes these days are shared the most among the people with a lot of enthusiasm and joy. Like on our loved one’s birthday we prepare delicious dishes the same way we celebrate Janmashtami by cooking dishes which are the favorites of Lord Krishna. Janmashtami recipes mostly include dishes related to milk and milk products as Lord Krishna was very fond of milk.

Dessert Recipes for Janmashtami Fasting

1. Shrikhand

Ingredients: Thick curds ½ Kg, Powder Sugar ½ Cup, Saffron Milk 2 tbsp., Cardamom powder 2tbsp., Chopped dry fruits for garnish

Method:

1/ Take thick and fresh curd on Muslin cloth, squeeze the cloth to remove excess water, and hang the curd for 1 hour then refrigerate it for 1-2hour.

2/ Transfer the hung curd in a bowl and whisk it properly to make it creamier. Add sugar powder, cardamom powder, and chopped dry fruits. Mix well using a whisk and lastly add saffron milk to make it more flavourful.

3/ Garnish with dry fruits and refrigerate at least one hour before serve.

2. Rava Kesari

Ingredients: Cow Ghee ½ cup, Fine Rava (Sooji/ Semonila) 1 cup, Dry fruits 2-3 tbsp., Sugar 1 cup, Water 2, and ½ cup, Saffron strands 3-4, Cardamom Powder ½ tbsp.

Method:

1/ Heat a heavy bottom pan and add 3tbsp. of ghee on medium flame. Add dry fruits and fried until turns golden in color. Keep aside fried dry fruits.

2/ Now add rava to the ghee and roast it with keep stirring. Roast till ghee separated from it and the color of rava also change slightly. Now switch off the flame and keep aside the pan.

3/ Heat another pan to making sugar syrup. Add water and sugar to boil on medium to high flame.

4/ While sugar dissolve, add slowly roasted rava to it with keep stirring to avoid any lumps formation. Add saffron and leftover ghee to it. Mix well till the rava separates from the pan. It takes around 5 minutes and it cooked well completely.

5/ Add roasted dry fruits and Serve Rava Kesari on this Janmashtami!!!

3. Doodh Peda | Milk Pedda

Simple and easy homemade Milk Pedda recipe. The addition of cardamom powder and saffron milk gives a nice aromatic flavor and taste to the peddas. Exclusively prepared for this auspicious occasion.

Savoury Recipes for Janmashtami Fasting

4. Vrat ke Jeera Aloo

Ingredients: 2 Boiled Potato, 1 tbsp. Jeera or Cumin Seeds, 2 chopped Green Chilli, 1 tbsp. Ghee, Salt as required

Method:

1/ Heat ghee in a pan. Add Jeera or cumin seeds to it. Allow them to change the color and to splutter.

2/ Add green chilli to it and fry for a minute. Cut the boiled potatoes into cube sized pieces. Add potatoes and stir very well.

3/ Sprinkle salt as per your choice and mix well. Cover it with a lid and cook for 5 minutes.

4/ Serve it with Pooris or parathas.

5. Singhare Ki Poori/ Puri

Ingredients: 1 cup Singhare flour, 1 tbsp. Ghee, ½ cup Boiled mashed potatoes, ½ tbsp. Ajwain seeds, Salt to taste, Water for Kneading

Method:

1/ Take a clean bowl and mix all the dry ingredients nicely.

2/ Add water little by little and make a soft dough. Divide the dough into 6-8small pieces. And make a puri in your hand, Repeat it with the remaining balls.

3/ Heat oil in a frying pan and fry puri until golden brown in color.

4/ Serve with Jeera aloo or Shrikhand.

6. Sabu dana fruit Salad for Vrat

Sabudana or Sago fruit salad is a refreshing dish and always the best option for fast or vrat. You can use any fruit of your choice mix with creamy yogurt and Sabu dana combining. Made without cooking, it is low in fat too. So, check out this flavourful, healthy energy boost recipe during this Janmashtami.
