Savitri Vrata Fast recipes- Odia Festival

Savitri vrata or Amavasya is a fasting day observed by Hindu married women in Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Married women observe this festival by worshiping Savitri as a Devi with great dedication and pray for their husbands to have a good and long life. In this Vat, Savitri Vrata women are praying and fast all day and only eat fruits, chopped fruits with soaked moong, and sabudana fruit salad which are completely no-cook recipes. Sabudana fruit Salad/  Odia Saagu Chakata

Ingredients: Sabudana- 1cup, Grated coconut- ½ cup, Curd- 4-5 tbsp., Coldwater-1cup, 1 Chopped apple, 1 Pomegranate, 1 chopped banana, 1/ cup chopped pineapple, 1/ cup Grapes, Mango cubes- 1tbsp, Sugar-2 tbsp.

How to make Sabudana Salad recipe:

1/ To make soaked sabudana fruit salad, Wash Sabudana nicely under running water, and soak them with 2-3 cups of water for 2-3 hours/ overnight according to the quality of sabudana.

2/ It will become double in size after soaking, drain the water and place it into a large bowl. Mash them little with the help of your fingertips and mix it with curd and grated coconut.

3/ Gently add water along with sugar and stir until sugar dissolves completely. Now add all your favorite chopped fruit and give a final touch of mixing the entire ingredient properly with sabudana.

4/ you can add some boiled milk, chopped cucumber, and dry fruits also but here skip this step to make it as simple.

5/ Soaked sabudana fruit salad is ready without any cooking. Enjoy this special recipe during fast or brat.

Savitri Vrata Muga Chakata (Moong fruit salad):

Ingredients: Moong 2 hand full, ¼ cup chopped mango, 1 chopped banana, 1 chopped apple, a hand full of chopped grapes, chopped orange 2 tbsp.,  ¼ cup chopped cucumber, 2 tbsp. curd, 1 tbsp sugar, and 1 tbsp. honey

1/ In a bowl take a handful of moong or sprouts with enough water to soak overnight. After soaking remove the outer skin of moong by mashing between your hands and clean it properly with water.

2/ In a bowl take all the cutting fruits and smash a little with your hands. Add moong along with sugar and curd. Mix it well.

3/ Drizzle with honey and eat fresh!!!
